Thinking of the holidays is both exciting and scary. The scary part is when so many people lose sight of the the real joy of Christmas time – Being with family and friends. The scary part for me has always been watching others get lost in their spending; it always reminds me to stay focused on the real meaning of christmas and the importance of staying on track financially. The most important things my parents taught me about finances is creating a budget and sticking to it. The first step has always been to save for the future- this means the first 10% of everything I earn goes into my savings account, then I pay my bills and the rest is for fun. The holidays are usually the most challenging times to stick to my budget, there are so many sales and so much advertising that catches my eye but I know I need to stay focused. A few years ago my parents decided to give savings account gift card along with a small toy to the kids in our family. I think this is a great idea and set a great example for creating financial balance and setting kids up for future financial success.
Discovering that Capital One is having a Black Friday Sale, was kind of amazing. It is exactly what I believe can encourage people to create balance in their financial life during the holidays, a time of year when sticking to a budget and staying focused is so challenging. Just think about giving yourself or someone you love the opportunity to save and get a free money bonus at the same time. It’s like the gift that keeps giving! On top of that you can actually refer a friend and add more to your savings. Capital One is giving everyone the opportunity to keep the true meaning of Christmas in mind and stay on budget.
