12/31 | Start New Holiday Traditions This Year

Its officially the Christmas season, and that means it is time to go through the motions and do all the same things you did last year, and every year for as long as you can remember. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. I love all the traditions that my family has for the holiday season; they’re what make Christmas, well Christmas. However last year I got an itch to spice things up a little and make some new traditions.

I would never give up the traditions that I have grown up with, like taking the annual family picture in front of the tree. These traditions will stick with me throughout my whole life. But that doesn’t mean we can’t start some new fresh traditions.

One of the new traditions that I decided to start this past year is giving toys to a toy drive. It is amazing knowing that you can make a little kid’s day and possibly their whole year buy donating some toys. While a lot of kids have too many toys, as I have learned in this article by Yahoo! Parenting Magazine, some kids have none. As the article explains toys are not just mearly a form of entertainment, they are the tools for learning. I highly encourage you all to start this traditon in your family!

Another fun tradition that I started last year and am looking forward to again this year is making my neighbors sticky buns on Christmas Eve. Its a busy time of year for us all, so receiving a homemade treat from someone is even more special then ever. We had a great time baking and listening to Christmas carols. I’m sure that our neighbors enjoyed their sticky buns on Christmas morning even more!

Last year we also started Christmas Game night! Having a low key Christmas and spending quality time with loved one is what the season is all about! We don’t need a fancy dinner with fine china to enjoy each other’s company! So this Christmas, ditch the dress and pull out some good old fashion board games! I’m telling you, you won’t regret it!

I am so glad that we switched it up and created some fun new holiday traditions- I think they will stick around for awhile! What new traditions are you going to start this year?
