10/31 | Kitchen Memories! #OurAmericanKitchen

The holidays are always such an exciting time for our family! We start preparing weeks and weeks ahead of time and many of our plans involve the kitchen. I learned to cook by my Mammaw’s side and we still get together to bake cookies, squares, pies, and an amazing gingerbread house every holiday season.

One of our favorite holiday events we’ve had for the past few years is our really fun Decorate Your Own Gingerbread House and Gingerbread People party. We bake the walls, roofs, and people ahead of time and then our guests get to assemble their own, embellishing them with delicious royal icing and tons of colorful candies.

Throughout the years, things have changed a bit in our family kitchen. I started out as Mammaw’s kitchen assistant, handing her ingredients and helping with the stirring. Then I became her apprentice, helping to roll out dough and measuring ingredients. Now that I’m older, I’ve become her kitchen partner and we share the work equally. One thing that hasn’t changed though is our GE Appliances Kitchen.

From our GE appliances oven to bake the gingerbread pieces to the coffee we serve from the Keurig in our GE Appliances refrigerator  to the handy GE Appliances dishwasher which makes party cleanup a snap, GE has always been a big part of our holiday celebrations!

The kitchen is the heart of the home and GE is the heart of our kitchen. The GE Appliances “Our American Kitchen” webisodes series explores the heart of American life through a variety of families and the love they share in their kitchens.
