4/30 | DIY Scrap Fabric Lamp

My mom just redid our living room and was getting rid of an old lamp. As she was putting it in the car to go to the donation center, I thought “humm, maybe I can do something with that.” I wanted to give it a makeover without spending any money. In this post I am going to show you how I transformed this lamp into a cute DIY scrap fabric lamp!

To create your own scrap fabric lamp you will need: an old lamp, Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint, Americana Decor Paint Brush, painter’s tape, scrap fabric, and scissors.

Step 1: Tape of the parts of the lamp that you do not want to paint. I decided to leave the wood part of my lamp as is.

Step 2: Use Americana Chalky Finish to paint the base of the lamp. I used Relic which is a dark gray color. If your lamp has a lot of texture like mine does, use a dabbing motion to get the paint into all the grooves.

Step 3: Remove the tape. If you need to, you can touch up the edges.

Step 4: Cut fabric into one inch strips. I had all of this fabric left over from a previous project. (I guess I should post that, huh?)

Step 5: Rip all of the fabric off the lampshade so all that is left is the wire frame. (I didn’t take a picture of this step, but I think you can imagine it.) Then tie the fabric strips across each section. I got a pattern going and stuck with it, but you can do it randomly too. I recommend watching a movie during this step.

It came together so cute! I love how I was able to repurpose a lamp that my mom was going to get rid of and use it in my room! With a little paint and some fabric it is like a completely different lamp!

The scrap fabric lampshade did take a lot of patience, but I made it during two family movie nights. After seeing the finished DIY scrap fabric lamp, I think it was totally worth the time. And the entire project was free because I already had everything on hand. How cool is that?

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it opened up your eyes to the possibilities that your old lamp or furniture has!
