To me, crafting is relaxing! It is the first thing I think of doing when I am overwhelmed or stressed because I know that as soon as I start pouring the paint, my worry will fade away! I love to drink iced tea while I craft to make the process even more relaxing. What do you drink when you craft? You would be surprised to see the difference between projects that I have made when I am stressed versus projects that I have made when I am relaxed! Thankfully, I was relaxed when I was making today’s project!
I picked up Straight Up Tea in the Honey Green variety when I was at ACME this weekend, but they also have Sweet, Unsweetened, Sorta Sweet, and Rooibos. Whatever variety, or varieties, you choose to try, use this Buy One, Get One coupon. That way you can have twice the amount of relaxing craft nights. I thought that I better protect my craft table, so I decided to make some really fun DIY brush stroke coasters. I love the whimsy design, and they match my craft room. Here is how you can make your own DIY brush stroke coasters.
You will need:
- Pack of 4 wooden coasters
- White paint
- Paint in a variety of colors
- Paintbrushes
- Spray Sealer
- Felt
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun + hot glue gun sticks
Step One: Paint the coasters with a base coat of white. It may take 2 coats for complete coverage.
Step Two: Channel your inner abstract artist and add random brush strokes in all the different colors on the coaster. A few tips to make it look prettier is to leave some white spaces and to make strokes in every direction. It also helps to have some thin strokes and some fat strokes. Have fun with it and don’t stress too much! Brush stroke painting is one of the most relaxing DIY techniques that I use frequently.
Step Three: When the paint has dried, seal the design on the coasters in with a spray sealer. You could use another type of sealer, but the spray is my favorite because it is so easy!
Step Four: Cut a piece of felt that is a little smaller than the coaster. Adhere it to the bottom of the coaster using hot glue.

I think that my favorite part about these coasters is that no two are the same. All of mine are different and when you make your own set, those will all be totally different too, even though we followed the same tutorial!
