Considering that I am a die-hard color enthusiast, it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that in today’s post I am teaching you how to make a DIY rainbow towel. I have been cooking up this idea for awhile but wasn’t sure how to go about it. After a bit of trial and error, I have come up with the easiest way and I’m excited to share it with you today so you can get to sewing your own DIY rainbow towels. The thing that makes this seemingly daunting project possible is Clover’s Carefree Curves Quilt Templates. I would classify this project under applique more so than quilting, but they are super handy in getting the perfect arches!
- light blue hand towel
- terrycloth fabric- lime green, hot pink, turquoise
- Clover Trace’n Create Quilt Templates- Carefree Curves
- Clover 28mm Rotary Cutter
- Washable Fabric Marker
- Pins
- Light blue thread
- Sewing Machine
Step One: Use the Carefree Curves Quilt Templates to trace semi-circles onto the terrycloth fabric. You may also want to go back in and freehandedly draw in the gaps the tracer leaves. Trace the smallest semi-circle onto the hot pink, the middle size on lime green, and the largest on the turquoise.
Step Two: Use the 28mm rotary cutter along the traced lines to cut them out.
Step Three: Pin the hot pink piece to the lime green piece. Match up the bottoms and make sure that it is centered lengthwise.
Step Four: Sew them together by using a tight zigzag stitch where they meet. You will want to have one swing of the needle on the pink and the other on the green. This will cover up the raw edge.
Step Five: Pin and sew the green fabric (which has the pink attached) to the turquoise in the same fashion. The finished product will look like a rainbow.
Step Six: Place the rainbow onto the hand towel so that the bottom of it meets up with the folded over edge on the short side.
Step Seven: Using the same tight zigzag stitch, sew around the bottom edge and the curved edge. Cut any loose threads.
I love the brightness and happiness this towel brings in to my basic kitchen. Neither my guests or I can help but smile when we dry our hands with it. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and feel confident in your DIY rainbow towel making abilities. I promise it is simple!
