My phone is one of the most important things that I own and I bet that is true for you as well. I feel like everything is on my phone from pictures of my favorite memories to important emails and contact information. That is why it is important for me to protect it well. In today’s tutorial, I am excited to show you how I made this cute and functional DIY felt and leather phone sleeve. I love the functionality that this case has, but more so, I love how easy it is to make and that it can be sewn by hand. I used Coats & Clark Dual Duty Plus Button & Craft Thread because it is thicker and stronger than your typical thread. Here is everything you will need to make your own:
- Felt
- Leather Scrap
- Ruler
- Pen/marker
- Scissors
- Coats & Clark Dual Duty Plus Button & Craft Thread
- Hand Sewing Needle strong enough for leather
Step One: Measure your phone and then draw out a rectangle that size plus half an inch added to the heigh and the width onto the felt. For example, my iPhone measures 3 by 5.5 so I drew a 3.5 by 6 inch rectangle on my felt.
Step Two: Cut out two of the rectangles.
Step Three: Use the scissors to round the bottom corners of both felt pieces.
Step Four: Use the scissors to cut out a semi-circle on the bottom edge and a small rectangle out of the upper two corners.
Step Five: Cut out a piece of leather for the pocket. It should be 2.5 inches wide and around that tall as well. I like to use a raw edge of leather for the top edge of it for a natural look.
Step Six: Place the leather pocket on one of the pieces of felt towards the bottom. Stitch around the two sides and the bottom, leaving just the tow unsewn.
Step Seven: Then Place the piece of felt that has the pocket attached on top of the plain felt piece and stitch down the two sides.
