Hey Friends! As I prepare for the Spring Semester of my Junior Year of College, I was thinking about all of you out there who are also about to start a new semester. I thought that I would share the things that I am doing to get ready for the spring semester in hopes to help some of you better prepare. I have done many of these things before and they have been super helpful in previous semesters. By far the most helpful thing I did last semester was signing up for Cengage Unlimited. You can learn more about it HERE or in #2 of this post. I’m excited, so let’s get into the good stuff!
#1- Print Your Syllabus
You’ll want to print out and read all the information your professors have provided you with. The reason they take the time to send it prior to the class starting is because it is important. When you read through the expectations, be sure that you can meet them all and you don’t need to switch classes.
#2- Sign Up for Cengage Unlimited
Cengage Unlimited is a subscription service that allows you to digitally access all of your Cengage textbooks in one place! It doesn’t matter how many Cengage courses you enroll in, Cengage Unlimited’s price stays the same, starting at $119.99 per semester. You’ll also get access to all your Cengage courses on platforms like WebAssign and Mindtap. It doesn’t stop there, you also get their library of online textbooks, study guides, and a textbook rental. I’ll be honest with you all, this program has really taken some of the college stress off of me, and I love the fact that my college books are in one place and I don’t have to worry about big, heavy, bulky books anymore if I don’t want to. Another huge plus about Cengage Unlimited is that when you choose to end your subscription you can still access up to 6 online textbooks anytime for up to a year. This is a college game changer!
#3- Locate Your Classrooms
Take the time to locate and walk to all your classrooms. This will ensure that you know exactly where you are going and give you an idea of what time you have to leave for class or how fast you’ll need to walk from one class to the next. It’s no fun being the person who walks into the wrong classroom or who is super late. I have been there before which is why I’m giving you this tip.
#4- Wake Up Early
One of the hardest things about starting a new semester is getting back into a daily routine of waking up early. I have found it to be so much easier to keep up the routine over break than to mess it up and try to get back to it when spring semester starts back. Even if you don’t have early morning classes, waking up at a decent hour can change the whole trajectory of your semester. Often times, professors hold office hours in the mornings and it is also a great time to get some studying done in a peaceful environment.
#5- Set Goals
For us goal-oriented students, this is a must! To get the most out of college, you need to set specific goals for each semester. Just setting a four-year goal of graduating will not help you to be as successful as you could be. One thing I do at the beginning of each new semester is write out some semester goals, whether big or small, and hang it in my dorm somewhere I will see it every day. It’s a great way to stay on track and stay motivated to reach the smaller goals. Plus, they keep me accountable. Set your goals and make sure you achieve them! #6- Have a Positive Attitude
Sometimes your attitude can be everything. Starting out spring semester with the attitude that it’s going to be a great one gives you a way better chance of enjoying the semester. When times get hard and you have a lot of school work on your plate, think back to all the things that you have already accomplished during the fall semester! My go-to mantra that has gotten me through some late-night study sessions is, “I CAN do this!” It is simple yet motivational!
There you have it! With all of these tricks up your sleeve, you are going to be ready to rock the spring semester! How good would it feel to have an awesome spring semester? Summer would feel even better knowing that you gave school your all and that it paid off! If you’re curious about the Cengage Unlimited subscription service I mentioned before, you can learn more and subscribe here. It’s a great resource for any and every college student, go try it out for yourself.
