I have been compensated by Johnson’s® Baby for this post; however, I am sharing my own thoughts. All opinions are my own.
Summer is over although where I live in North Carolina, it sure doesn’t feel like it. With cooler weather in approaching and kids who will soon want to play indoors, I thought I would share a fun indoor activity for the little ones. In high school, I babysat for a few different families and I always looked forward to hanging out with the kids. I was lucky because the kids that I babysat loved to craft and do creative and messy things without their mom there to worry about the mess. One of their favorites to do was make their own DIY moon sand. If your kids or the kids that you babysit are crazy about the slime trend, I bet that they would love to make DIY moon sand too!

This DIY moon sand recipe only has 2 ingredients: flour and Johnson’s® Baby Oil. You will also need a mixing bowl, a measuring cup, a wisk (optional), and natural food dye (optional). Walmart has all of these things as well as lots of other Johnson’s® Products!
Add 4 cups of flour into the mixing bowl.
Add 1/2 a cup of Johnson’s® Baby Oil. This is also when you would want to add the natural food dye to the mixture. I opted to not add the dye and just keep it the natural color of sand.
Using either your hands or a whisk, mix the flour together with the baby oil. The consistency will still be powdery but just be sure to mix it well so that all the flour has come in contact with the baby oil. The kids will love to play with it after but you can totally get them involved in making it as well!
The texture is really cool and intriguing from toddlers to adults. It is moldable and shapable but can also be crumbled right back to its powdery form making a great sensory experience. The DIY version is just like the Moon Sand that you would buy in the stores or the call in commercials on television. Trow some little toys like cookie cutters and rolling pins in there to enhance your kiddos experience even more!
You can put the DIY moon sand into a pencil box to store for future uses! I used letter stickers on the box so that each kid could have their own personal portion. Less fighting is always that way to go! I wanted to share this Pinterest board full of Johnson’s® Baby Hacks. There are some amazing ones like this so be sure to check it out.
