The first part is going to be purchasing hosting and a domain. Don’t get overwhealmed or intimidated. It’s easy. You’re going to want to log on to Bluehost.com for this.
1. Pick your new home on the internet. Ours is, of course, alittlecraftinyourday.com. You may be wondering how we came up with our name. It was pretty easy. We knew we wanted to bring daily craft inspiration and A Little Craft In Your Day was available. Just a tip from a long time website owner, our name is very long. Looking back, I think we could have really benefited from a shorter domain.
Once you picked an available domain, they’re now going to ask what package you would like. We recommend the starter package. It is a great deal for everyone! This covers your hosting, which is what is going to store all your information online for you. Think of it as you’re renting an apartment at Bluehost. You pick the space and accommodations that work for you. Then you make it official.
Now you get to pick what type of agreement you would like to have with Bluehost. This will be paid in full upfront. I’m all about a great deal, so I went with the Starter 36 Month Price for 3.95 a month! With these awesome deals at Bluehost, anyone is able to create the next awesome site.
YAY! You have your domain + hosting now. How exciting is that? Now let’s get you set up on WordPress. This is how we run our blog and how you will want to run yours too! It is an awesome FREE blogging software that so many bloggers use. The best part? You can easily download it from your Bluehost account. Let me show you how.
Login to Bluehost and under website, you will see “Install WordPress.” Simply click on that.
Now we are DIYers here, so be sure to click the install button on the “Do it Yourself” section. Yay for DIY!!
Here is if you would like your blog to be like alittlecraftinyourday.com/blog. We didn’t do that for our blog, but that is up to you. Now you’re going to want to click “Check Domain.”
Once that is complete, click show advanced options and you’re going to fill in all 3 of the spots with your site name, username, and password. (Obviously, I’ve blacked out my login info, but you get the idea) Now click that you’ve read the terms and conditions and click “Install Now.”
Now get your admin URL which should be under your “Installation Credentials” and will look something like this : https://www.alittlecraftinyourday.com/wp-admin/. You now have a site on the internet! Now you get to let your creativity flow through your blog!
