Deadlines. My life is filled with deadlines. Whether it’s blogging deadlines or school deadlines, sometimes I am burning the candle at both ends. Maybe in the middle too. At times, I am not even sure if I remembered to eat that day. But before I get completely stressed out, I need to take a little time for myself. So, you can bet that when summer rolls around, I am looking for ways to indulge in a little rest and relaxation.
You know the old expression. A well that is not replenished will run dry. What does that mean for me? Sun and sand. When I’m looking for a little me time, that’s the first thing I think about. There’s just nothing like listening to the sounds of the waves lapping up against the shore, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, and digging your toes into the sand to help the tension of the week (or month) melt away. Of course, it’s not just the beach itself that helps me to relax. It’s all my little beach rituals as well. After all, a day of chilling at the beach just screams out for some other stress-relieving activities along with it. So, naturally, I have my own “must have” list of items for a day on the beach. Sunglasses and a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes, naturally. A refreshing beverage to stay hydrated. Maybe a cozy beach blanket so I can lie down in comfort – napping on the beach. Ahhhhh.
The most important thing on my list? A good magazine. I can lose myself in a good magazine. Give me an issue of Real Simple, PEOPLE, or Southern Living, and I am set for the day. On my last trip to Kroger to pick up a few groceries, I grabbed a copy of the latest issue of Real Simple with a trip to the beach for some low-key me time in mind.
Whether I want to daydream about how to decorate my future home, get some great beauty tips, check out the latest fashions, or discover a new delicious sounding recipe, it has it all. There are even articles to help me with issues that come up in my business! My favorite article in the most recent issue, not surprisingly, is one about ways to make summer last forever. Isn’t that just a heavenly idea?
It seems like such a small thing. A magazine. Often when we think of recharging with some me time, we’re thinking large scale. A resort vacation. A day at the spa. Things that require lots of money, lots of planning, and lots of time are often what come to mind. And that’s when we push them aside with excuses. We can’t afford that. We don’t have time for that. It’s too much work. But, I’m telling you right now that it doesn’t take much to get away from the stresses of your everyday life and take a much-needed self-care break.
Grab a copy of Real Simple, PEOPLE, or Southern Living, a bottle of water, and go find yourself a patch of sand to call your own for the day. You won’t believe how refreshed you’re going to feel!
